Village Artisan Scarves

As you enter Uzma's tiny home you sense the generosity and graciousness of the hostess. We sit cross-legged on the bed that sleeps the family of five, and she pours out a warm cup of Chai. Her easy laughter draws you into her story. Her eyes sparkle as she shares of how her husband found work with Village Artisan after some tough years where her 3 boys were pulled out of school when her husband couldn't find work. She too asked to be trained with VA and quickly learned how to make intricate decals for the handmade paper collections right from home. Now Uzma has expanded her repertoire and also does Kantha stitch on VA scarves and has trained some neighborhood young women. Not only does she teach the Kantha stitch but she, with her life, teaches them to believe in themselves, to work hard and honestly, and to treat others with dignity and love.

Meet Baby....honestly, this woman's name should be changed to Courage. She has overcome much and is now a role model at Village Artisan. Not only are Village Artisan's Paper Collections trendy and fun to use, but they are made from 100% recycled cotton from the textile industry in India. So no tree has fallen to bring you these artsy bits and pieces. At VA we are conscientious of the environment AND the people that live in it. When you jot a note on our cards or gift one of our journals or diaries, you are part of writing a global story of change as well as bringing transformation to communities.

Saima not only loves making Village Artisan Jewelry but she thinks school is cool! She's finished an in-depth accounting course and is now taking computer training.

Empowered! Plus she's a lot of fun.
